This issue of the Journal of the International Institute for Terminological Research consists of two parts. The first 6 contributions have been submitted to the editorial board during the past couple of years and do not as such have a specific theme in common.
The last 6 contributions form part of the proceedings of the colloquium Comparison of the theoretical foundations of terminology in Eastern Europe and the Western countries, held in Surrey in August 2003 in conjunction with the 14th European Symposium on Language for Special Purposes ‘Communication, Culture, Knowledge’.
